Up & Over the Sandias

Being a resident near all these awesome trails i have never hiked up and over the Sandias. I have done many of the trails on both sides of the mountain, so i decided to attempt the South Sandia peak with a colleague from work. On a late October Tuesday morning in 39*f we were dropped off at Eagle Canyon estates trail head which is about 6300' at about 7:45 a.m. Three hours later and about 2800' elevation gain we reached the pass at about 9500' and had lunch enduring the spectacular views. These views are rewarding after conquering the lighter-side of this mountain chain. Following a two hour lunch in 50*F we started our decent to my truck at the Indian School trail head. We ended our day at 2:45 in 63*F.
