Well, other than on myspace, this is my first blog ever so I hope I do not disappoint. I would currently consider myself an amateur. I have hiked, hunted, fished and camped often growing up, however in the context that I will discuss here I will just leave it as amateur. As a Sagittarius, I have always had it in my nature to explore but recently that has kicked into high gear. I don't know, maybe it's the early stages of a mid-life crisis. Anyway, I have always like to "tinker" and my quest for knowledge is never satisfied, therefore, I have plunged head first into learning all I can about outdoors in general. For the past 6 months I have poured over books, blogs, websites and such and as a result I have led myself on more digression than discovery. However, I have come across some interesting ideas and that is what I intend to share here. I intend to showcase some of the hobby and DIY ideas that I have tried. I will discuss those that have worked, those that I have improved on, and those that have failed. I will also review things that I have learned and products that I have tried.
In the first few blogs I will discuss my reasons for being interested in hammock camping and what has worked for me. I will discuss my journey into ropecraft and knott tying and how it relates to every aspect of outdoors life. I will complain about my never ending quest for the perfect hiking staff. Additionally, I will delve into the area of ultralight hiking and the conclusions that I have arrived at for myself. I will also explore my year long quest for a good survival kit, that is still evolving. I will do my best to let you share in my journey as I attempt to step through life as an amateur outdoor enthusiasts and perhaps we can both step through the other side more knowledgble, prepaired and happy.
