Squaw Creek is this wildlife refuge just north of St. Joseph, MO. More aptly, it is a bird refuge.

Our total is up in the 30's for miles of trails done, but I lost the exact count. True to form for me I will just start over.
This weekend we dumped the kids with grandma and headed north for our first cold weather hike. We originally planned on doing 8+ miles. Eric forgot "The Book" so we just did what we could find.

We had originally intended this trail for the day we did James A Reed, but before we saw the difficulty level, we saw that the trail head looked as though you would have to bushwhack - something we are positive would talk our kids right out of going with us ever again!

This was an awesome day - for the most part. The kids really liked most of the hike. We used this as an opportunity to begin training our dog. The trails are gorgeous and in some places so wide and flat we saw a guy pushing a stroller along them. It was a great place to teach the kids about water crossings. The hike was long enough that they had to shed layers.
